A research that was done on Tsimane forager-farmers in the Bolivian Amazon by a group of researchers from University of California, Santa Barbara confirmed that there is a correlation between chopping wood and testosterone. The research was lead by Dr. Trumble and the results were compared to competitive soccer.
It is a known fact that competitive sport increase testosterone and Dr. Trumble was looking for relationship between testosterone and other activities. The results of the study was quite shocking. The research that was conducted on 63 Tsimane men varying from age 16 to 80 (average 38) showed that testosterone increased by 46.8 percent after an hour long session of wood chopping. Competitive soccer on the other hand only increased testosterone by 30.1 percent.
I hope to see more studies like this in the future. Chopping wood is a great workout and was performed by athletes such as Muhammad Ali.
