Healthy Hot Pumpkin Spice Drink

When I was in college I used to always get lattes from starbucks or other coffee shops.   They were loaded with caffeine and sugar so it would give me a boost to study for a while  and after a couple cups of course I would crash miserably.  Later on in life when I got wiser and learned about nutrition,  I realized this was not the best decision.  It was loaded with calories but more than that,  they are loaded with processed stuff.  Everyone once and  a while everyone  needs a hot cup of a nice drink so I came up with a cool healthy version of the hot pumpkin spice drink which might be a little anabolic and have anti-fatigue effects on the body.

         Ingredients :

  • 3 cups almond milk or fat free milk.
  • 4 cups chopped pumpkin
  • 2 tablespoons of Raw Honey
  • 2-3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg                 

Basically you throw all these in a high power blender such as a vitamix and you blend it for a while until everything is liquified.  Then I pour this  in to a pot and heat up to the desired temperature.  I try not to to make it too hot to make sure the enzymes don't die and I get a better bang for the buck. 

Recent research showed that pumpkin extract increases grip strength and endurance capacity in mice.  So this drink might actually bring your monstrous side out.  I like to drink this as a pre-workout drink and I feel like I get really good pumps at the gym.  Who knows,  maybe it is placebo effect but either way, pumpkin is full of antioxidants and a great addition to your diet.
