One error I notice in the gym often is people stretching then rolling. This is not the best way to sequence the stretch/rolling routine. Rolling should be done prior to stretching. When we roll we loosen up the muscles and get get some blood flowing to them. Rolling also helps with undoing some of the knots we have in the muscles. After this is done stretching should be done. If you roll first you will notice your range of motion (ROM) will improve and you will notice this during your stretches. There are many research papers that support increased ROM after rolling. If you make it a habit to roll before stretching you will maximize the benefits of your recovery and mobility work.
